Helping Regional Students Make Their Mark in the Sporting Arena

Several years ago, the Trust contacted a school in North Queensland that had a number of students from remote and regional areas attending the school. Several of the students were attending on reduced fees due to family circumstances. One of the girls from the school had qualified, for the first time, to attend the State Athletics Titles to be held in Brisbane that year. Due to the very significant travel, accommodation and uniform costs involved in attending the tiles from such a remote location, and the short timeline involved,  the school applied to the Trust for a grant to cover some of the costs. The grant was subsequently approved.

The school representative spoke glowingly about the student’s renewed involvement in her education and her positive attitude to school following her return from the athletics titles.  As with most things, it is the gesture of support that leaves a significant impact well after the event has taken place.
